Triabunna

2016
mixed media on paper
30 x 35 cm
This painting takes its name from the small township of Triabunna on the east coast of Tasmania and was painted at the same time as Working Boat on one of McDowell’s frequent visits to the area. The portrayal of boats as romantic subjects is expressed through the use of abstracted patterns and lines that are blurred into the scene. The use of overlapping dark and light blue hues convey the graceful movement of water and the serene elegance of the boat as a moving object.
