This exhibition of selected works by Angela Coombs Matthews focuses on her works in printmaking spanning from 2012 to 2015. In these works Coombs Matthews’ etchings, photogravures and monoprints depict compositions inspired by travels to northern Tasmania, northeastern Victoria and regional New South Wales. The development of Coombs Matthews’ compositions typically conveys the abstraction of the natural and physical contoured landscapes to create a contemporary narrative that explores intimacy and immersion of fragmented moments and places within the landscape. Birds are a recurrent motif in Coombs Matthews’ works and allows for a deeper and more considered exploration of themes concerning contemplation, mystery and bravery.
