Neutral Bay to the East

2016
oil on linen

Ashley Frost’s impasto compositions are inspired by the vibrancy of the sky and the transitions of light. The luscious and thickly textured paint give his work its tactile, urgent approach. In Neutral Bay to the East, the vertical plane of the sky dominates the scene and the use of a high-keyed colour palette gives the painting its energy and beauty as it captures the sublime ephemeral observations of the late afternoon sky cast across the Sydney harbour and surrounding suburbs.
