Last Light over Wade Park

2014

Simon Cowell’s subjects depict urban vistas and landscapes by creating compositions that specifically capture scenes we tend to look past in our everyday lives. The subject of this painting is taken from Orange where Cowell spent two days observing and documenting in 2014. It is considered one of the artist’s most successful paintings in capturing the feeling and mood evident in all his works. This painting depicts a dramatic scene of an approaching storm, with the gathering thick dark blue clouds juxtaposed against the last remnants of sunlight streaming on the town.
