Gabrielle Jones is an abstract painter and drawer from the Blue Mountains, New South Wales. She holds a Fine Arts degree from the National Art School where she graduated with distinction in 2003 and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney, 1982. Jones has completed further studies in fine arts and also attended Julian Ashton Art School. Jones’ abstract paintings and drawings are highly expressive and engaging. Jones draws upon a range of traditional and experimental gestural mark making techniques to create unintended patterns, depth and space on the canvas or paper. Jones has won or been highly commended in a number of Prizes including a Highly Commended for the 2013 and 2014 Blackheath Art Prize. Jones was Artist-in-residence at Tweed Regional Gallery in 2016 and has been a finalist in numerous major award exhibitions. These include the 2016 Kedumba Drawing Award; 2016 Rick Amor Drawing Prize; 2015 and 2014 Fishers Ghost Drawing and Print Awards; 2015 and 2013 Muswellbrook Art Prize; and 2013 Calleen Art Award. Jones’ artwork is in the collection of Muswellbrook Regional Gallery.
